O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% is a high-strength Vitamin A serum formulated for excessively oily, stubbornly congested and textured skin requiring more intensive correction. Powered by 1% encapsulated Retinol, it accelerates cell turnover to help regulate heavy oil flow, unclog congested pores and visibly refine rough or thickened texture while targeting hyperpigmentation, fine lines and signs of sun damage.

Designed as the progression from O Cosmedics Potent Retinol Serum 0.5%, the concentrated formula combines Retinol with V8 Peptide Complex®, Niacinamide, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid and soothing SymRelief® to support firmness, hydration, skin comfort and antioxidant protection alongside intensive resurfacing. Controlled encapsulation gradually releases the Retinol, supporting effective correction while helping manage the irritation potential associated with higher-strength Vitamin A.

The lightweight lotion-serum is mixed with an O Cosmedics moisturiser and introduced gradually according to tolerance. With consistent use, it supports clearer pores, smoother texture, more balanced oil flow and a firmer, more even and radiant-looking complexion.

SKIN DEEP MEDISPA EXPERT VERDICT
Our rating: 4.8/5
O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% is one I use selectively rather than treating it as the inevitable next step for everyone using Retinol. I particularly like it for resilient, oilier skin where congestion, coarse or thickened texture and sun damage remain persistent despite already using Potent Retinol Serum 0.5% successfully. At that point, the higher Retinol concentration can give us the additional resurfacing and oil regulation we're looking for, while ingredients such as Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid and SymRelief® provide valuable support around a very active formula. For the right skin, it can be an excellent corrective, but I don't believe stronger is automatically better when it comes to Vitamin A.

BEST FOR
Oily • Stubborn Congestion • Rough Texture • Hyperpigmentation • Ageing

If your skin is already responding well to Potent Retinol Serum 0.5%, I wouldn't increase the concentration simply for the sake of progressing. Equally, if your skin is dry, reactive or struggling with Retinol, moving to 1% isn't the answer. This is a product I choose because the skin condition warrants greater correction and can tolerate it, not because 1% sounds more advanced.

🔥 OUR HOT TIP
If you're using O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% to target pigmentation or sun damage, don't focus on the Retinol and overlook your morning routine. I consider daily SPF just as important as the corrective product itself. You're working at night to improve uneven pigment and visible sun damage, so consistent UV protection during the day is essential to protect that progress.

How To Use

Use O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% in the evening. Mix ½–1 pump with your chosen O Cosmedics moisturiser and apply evenly over the face, avoiding the eye area. Apply O Cosmedics Mineral Pro SPF every morning.

Begin every second to third evening, then gradually increase to every second evening and then nightly only if your skin continues to tolerate the higher concentration comfortably.

Some dryness can occur when progressing to a higher Retinol concentration. If your skin becomes itchy, red, inflamed or persistently stings or burns, stop use until it settles before slowly reintroducing. If the reaction returns, your skin may not require this level of Retinol and stepping back to O Cosmedics Potent Retinol Serum 0.5% may be more appropriate.

Important: Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

FAQs

What is the difference between O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% and Potent Retinol Serum 0.5%?
Both use encapsulated Retinol, but they are intended for different stages of the O Cosmedics Retinol pathway. Potent Retinol Serum contains 0.5% Retinol and is the starting point for suitable oily, congested and textured skin. Retinol Concentrate contains 1% Retinol and is reserved for skin that has already completed a course of the 0.5% formula but still requires greater correction for concerns such as excessive oil, stubborn congestion, thickened texture or sun damage. We wouldn't move someone to 1% purely because a higher percentage sounds more effective.

Can O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% help with pigmentation and sun damage?
Yes. This is one of the situations where we may consider the 1% formula for appropriately conditioned skin. Retinol accelerates cell turnover and helps regulate pathways involved in uneven pigmentation, while ongoing renewal can improve the appearance of dark spots, uneven tone and thickened sun-damaged texture. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is essential when these are the concerns you're trying to improve.

Can O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% help with oily skin, clogged pores and breakouts?
Yes, particularly when excessive oil and stubborn congestion persist despite using a lower Retinol concentration. Retinol helps regulate sebum production and normalise cell turnover, reducing the build-up that contributes to clogged pores and mild breakouts. If you're experiencing persistent inflammatory acne, however, we would recommend having your overall routine assessed rather than simply increasing your Retinol strength.

How do I introduce O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% without overdoing it?
Even if you've been using O Cosmedics Potent Retinol Serum 0.5% regularly, we recommend reducing frequency when you first introduce the 1% formula. Start every second or third evening, mixing ½–1 pump with your O Cosmedics moisturiser, then gradually increase only if your skin remains comfortable. Dryness can occur initially, but persistent redness, burning or stinging is a sign to stop and allow the skin to recover.

Can I use O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% with Vitamin C, Niacinamide or Hyaluronic Acid?
Yes, these ingredients can form part of a well-designed routine with O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1%. In fact, the formula itself contains Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid. We generally use hydrating and barrier-supporting products around Retinol rather than unnecessarily increasing the number of strong corrective actives used at the same time. Vitamin C can also be used elsewhere in the routine, often in the morning, depending on the formulation and your skin.

Can I use O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% with AHAs, BHAs or exfoliating peels?
Potentially, but we wouldn't automatically layer them on the same evening. O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% is already a high-strength resurfacing treatment, and combining it with strong exfoliating acids can increase the likelihood of irritation and over-exfoliation. We generally prefer separating intensive corrective treatments unless your skin has been professionally assessed and your routine specifically designed to accommodate both.

How long does O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% take to show results?
Visible improvements from Retinol commonly become apparent within around 4–8 weeks of consistent use, particularly in texture, clarity and fine lines. More established concerns such as pigmentation, thickened sun damage and long-term firmness require ongoing use. We would rather see O Cosmedics Retinol Concentrate 1% used consistently at a frequency your skin tolerates than pushed too quickly in an attempt to accelerate results.

“I moved onto this after using the 0.5% serum for quite a while. I’m glad I started slowly again because it definitely feels like a step up. The congestion around my chin has improved and my skin feels much smoother overall.”

Nadine, Chelsea VIC

★★★★★

“My skin is very oily and I’d reached a point where the lower strength Retinol wasn’t doing quite enough for the texture anymore. This has made a noticeable difference, particularly across my forehead and around my pores. I only use it every second night and that seems to be plenty for me.”

Kayla, Tamworth NSW

★★★★★

“I started this mainly for sun damage and some stubborn pigmentation on my cheeks. It took a few weeks before I really noticed the difference, but my skin now looks much more even and refined. Definitely a product I’d introduce slowly rather than rushing.”

Emma, Adelaide SA
